Sod Maintenance
To keep your lawn looking nice you should fertilize it four times a year. An easy way to remember this is to fertilize on the holidays: Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day, and Halloween.
We recommend using fertilizer with a 4-1-2 ratio (4 parts Nitrogen, 1 part Phosphorous, and 2 parts Potassium) i.e. 27-3-8. Follow package instructions whenever using fertilizer.
If you follow our instructions on post-installation care for your sod, you will probably have to mow your lawn twice a week.
Make sure to have a sharp blade on your mower, and cut off no more than 1/3 the length of the blades.
Blades should measure 2 to 2 1/2 inches long after mowing.
If there is a very dry season, let your lawn be a little longer than usual (3 1/2 to 4 inches) to retain a nice green lawn when others are turning brown.
You'll probably only need to use a weed killer in the Spring and Fall.
